Restart and Reset

Happy new year tribe! We made it! We hope you had a great holiday season.

January is the month of resetting and refocusing for me and my family. I have personal traditions that help start my year with the best of intentions and with an open heart. One of my necessary “resets” is my diet. Those that know me know I generally eat fairly clean. If you also know me, you know the holidays means I don’t. No shame in my game. I allow myself to indulge because I know I’ll saddle up on the wagon when the holidays end. The challenging part is not letting that sweet tooth of mine lead me into temptation in 2019... because before you know it, one dessert becomes 4 in one week and you’re staring at your goals thru the straw of an Oreo Shake!

I have other goals I focus on outside of diet, one being communication. In a profession that relies so heavily on effectively communicating, I always set the clear intent to listen, closely. Better than I did last year and the year before. Working closely with families in their private space means nannies get to see them at their most vulnerable. To better support, I also set the intent of being sensitive to the family’s needs that day. Flexibility is key and as a person who likes predictability, I’m always looking to exercise ways to grow in that area.

Those are just a few of my “resets” for the new year. What is most helpful for me when surveying how to be a better Kristin, a better daughter, a better friend, a better nanny....is being transparent and knowing there’s always room for development.

Have you ever heard the saying “How you start is how you finish?!” Whether it’s true or not, the best start is always a strong start. Let’s get after these goals!!!
